Bill of Materials - Help a newbie build his house !

I am trying to build a house but the costs are driving me mad.

Before i buy the land & build, im trying to budget the costs into this. I do not want to waste money on this like the costs to get the plan approved, engineer costs, etc ...

I want to outlay the capital for the material because i am in the industry & can get it at a good price but i do not know the quantity .

If there some formula like 1000 bricks for 10 square meters or how much cement is needed, etc ?

Is there a website with sample plans of the house & the quantity of materials used to build the house ? This will help me a great deal !

Thanks

Quantity surveying is a skill that requires training, experience and discipline.

You can "waste" money now on engineers and people who actually know what they are doing to help you get started, or you can WASTE money later. Here's a hint for you: "waste" money costs a tiny fraction of WASTE money.

BTW, if you're in the industry you should know that suppliers frequently offer free quantity survey estimates to facilitate your purchasing from them. Of course you have to give them a reasonable set of plans for them to use. You're staring off on the wrong foot. Putting the cart before the horse when building a house leads to major problems and you will be the one footing the bill to fix those problems.

If you can get materials at a good price you are way ahead of the game. Work with your strengths.
