Will Friedrich Ws12a10e Wallmaster Thru-the-wall Air Conditioner 12,200 Btu 115v fit ito Fedders Type A sleeve

Well, let's see:

Fedders Type A sleeve dimensions: 25 7/8" W x 16 3/4" D x 16 3/4" H (Fedders P/N BSA000C) Fedders Type B sleeve dimensions: 27" W x 19 3/4" H x 16 3/4" D (Fedders P/N BSB000C)

From Friedrich WallMaster® Thru-the-wall Air Conditioners brochure: Exact fit for Fedders sleeves. Measures 27"Wx16 3/4"H. Looks like a Fedders Type "A" to me.

Friedrich also has their own sleeve: P/N WSC

27"W x 16 3/4"H x 23" D (with front); minimum extension into room: 7-1/2"; minimum extension outside: 9/16". Through-the-wall finished opening: 27 1/4"W x 17 1/4"H

Note: a Friedrich's BAK / Baffle Adapter Kit needed to install your Friedrich Ws12a10e into a sleeve deeper than 16 3/4".

My Fedders Type A sleeve measures 27" W x 16.75" H and 16.75" Deep ( closed end )

How does BAK / BAFFLE adapter you mentioned works, since the end of the sleeve is closed.

Thank you for your help.

The rear isn't closed (can't be) - it's got a louvered grille. The baffle adapter is just a flat piece of plastic that gets glued vertically to the rear grille (it's got double-sided sticky tape) and prevents the intake of the outside air from recycling the discharged air. If the air was allowed to just circulate in the 3"-deep space between the back of the 16.75" deep A/C and 19.75" deep sleeve, the air will heat up and the compressor will shut down. So, the BAK baffle adapter is to ensure the discharge air actually goes outside. See the little picture I cut out of Friedrich manual and edited to illustrate how BAK works (below). However, you don't actually need it! Your sleeve appears to be the same depth as the A/C, so don't worry about the baffle adapter. Just make sure you use the correct louvered grille.

I, too, have the Fedders Type A sleeve (27" W x 16.75" H and 16.75" D). And I, too, am using it with a Friedrich - albeit their Uni-Fit (rather than the WallMaster.)

My question is regarding the (rear) louvered grille. The Friedrich manual insists on bending the original Fedders grill (with a plier) so that most of the vertical louvers are facing leftwards on the left - rather than the default Fedders grille have most of the louvers facing rightwards on the right.

Is this absolutely necessary? 1) It would be extremely difficult to unscrew and remove the rear grille altogether and 2) it would be very difficult to reorient and bend the middle louvers to the opposite direction.

(The Friedrich manual also says they should be bent on a 60 degree angle. It seems Fedders bent them either at 60 degrees or 45 degrees. I can't tell with certainty.)
