We had a basement leak issue today. At first glance, it appears that the crock/sump pump could not keep up with the inflow of ground water.

However, the moisture appears to be "hugging" the perimiter of the outside and inside walls. Our home is 6 years old, and we did an addition 4 years ago...no problem until today. I would think that any potential foundational issues would have surfaced well prior to this-especially as this has been such a dry year...we have had far more significant rain fall in a 24-48 hour period, than the roughly 3 inches of rain yesterday and today. Any ideas for a solution will be greatly appreciated! John

Water can take quite a while to finally find a draining point, but when it does you now have a delivery pipe. You'll probably even find its entry point by the way of a hole or a puddle. No, it's most likely not just right on the other side of the wall, it's probably 30 or 40-feet away where the ground is flat or pitches toward the house. Could be a whole side of the building.

- You need to build-up or ramp that area as a 1st measure and see if the problem is solved. Or, you can go to a deeper sump or bigger pump and pretend foundation damage is not happening, most people do. Or, you can do what should've been done to the addition and put it on its own drain system with its own sump and pump.
