paint over sapele door with gloss paint

I'm assuming the doors have a clear finish. You need to sand the doors not to remove the finish, but to scuff it up. Apply two coats of a good primer, either BIN or KILZ, sanding lightly after each coats has dried. Then top coat with the paint of your choice.
