Hi. I am a homeowner knowledgable of most homebuilding construction practices with a keen eye for wanting and expecting good workmanship. I have been under contract with a local design/build construction firm that specializes in building portico's. This project started the contract and design in August 2013 with a permit pulled in January 2014. The construction started in April 2014 and is still not done. One of the serious flaws with this company is the subcontractor was allowed to build what they have always built, however it was not as designed. They had to tear it down and begin again. I new we were in trouble when the $6k Thurmatru door they installed did not work properly, was not aligned properly and the hole they cutout with a utility blade and chisel for the door latch was messy and overcut. Even the utilty knife they used overscored the edge of the door and looks terrible. They filled it with putty and have been arguing with me that this is industry standard. I even requested they get the Thurmatru representative to look at this. Believe it or not the representative said this is one of the best installs he has seen. I could not understand how that could be. I took several pictures and sent them on to Thurmatru customer service wanting to know if this is the type of installation they want shown for their door. They wrote back and said there was nothing they could do. This is one of many workmanship issues I have with this job. I have tried to contact the President of the company several times in emails and phone calls through the office manager (sister of the Presdident)and never get a response back. I am left with dealing with the subs on the job and an arrogant project manager who does not care about the many comments I have made throughout this project. This project costs around 19k and is now 1 year has passed and still not done. They have ruined my grass, left construction debris on our driveway and have had a porta john stitting on my driveway the entire summer! Yuk! Of course no one is using it, just costing this company money. As a homeowner expecting much more from a design/build company with communications and workmanship. Is there any recourse I can take to get this company to fix their mistakes? Any suggestions you have will be greatfully appreciated. Thanks JeffHi.
