for double pocket how much door should remain in the pocket when pulled closed?

I am having a handyman install double doors, with a left and right door. when pulled to center (closed)shouldn't part of the door be encased in pocket? he made a 48" opening and hung 24" doors, so the edges are exposed when in center position. should he have hung 28 or 30" doors instead?

oops! should've had at least 1/2' still in walls if not 1'+. he could add some trim around the opening on the inside and outside of the closet along the sides at least to cover the gap.
