can a false chimney breast be built for a multi-fuel stove using metal stud framing and fireboard?

I want to build a false chimney breast on a flat wall around the pipe of a multi-fuel stove. Can this be done using metal stud framing and fireboard or do I have to use brickwork? I am not sure how thick the concrete floor is, so would prefer to build it using fireboard.
